Breast Cancer Awareness Begins At Casady

With the arrival of October comes Breast Cancer Awareness month, an initiative created to draw attention to breast cancer. Breast cancer afflicts 1 in every 8 American women and nearly 2600 men each year, according to the World Health Organization. According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, claiming the lives of roughly 40,000 women each year.To combat this devastating disease, Casady hosts and annual "Dig Pink" event. Facilitated by the Casady female volleyball team, this fundraiser aims to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and organization that raises money for early detection and education of breast cancer and for support services.The event starts with the selling of "Dig Pink" t-shirts. They come in long and short-sleeved versions, and are sold before the event. Those who buy the shirts are allowed to come out of uniform for the day of the event. The actual event is a volleyball game between the Casady faculty and the Varsity football team. The entire school is welcome to watch. Money is earned from ticket and bake sales, and the proceeds are donated to breast cancer research.Dig Pink has historically been a successful fundraiser, raising thousands of dollars for breast cancer research and creating a fun-filled night for teachers and students.
