Casady Can-Do Contribution

Managing Editor, Allison TienCasady’s Can Do Canned Food Drive made an amazing achievement this year in collecting over 14,000 cans (+ cash). During the last week of October (10/26 – 10/30), the students of every division on campus participated in the project “Casady’s Students Against Hunger” by bringing cans every morning to school.The Class of 2019 led this community service project with the help from Youth Active in Community (YAC) club members, and their fellow peers and upperclassmen volunteers.This year the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma presented the option of donating money to the cause. As the largest private hunger-relief charity in the state, the Food Bank has also expanded over the most recent years. Therefore, the organization has acquired many more means in “fighting hunger and feeding hope.” For example, the Regional Food Bank uses approximately 20% of their donations in negotiating the best prices per volume of food provided by local grocers and retailers, and national manufacturers.In counting the total number of cans, every $1 donated equated to six cans for the canned food drive.The Casady families donated 6,376 cans of food and $1,037 by Friday, October 30. Results around the lack by division are as follows:Primary Division: 456 cansLower Division: 1, 609 cansMiddle Division: 1, 609 cansUpper Division: 5, 418 cansIn the Middle Division, rather than dividing the numbers of cans brought by students by each grade, the participants brought their cans in support of their respective, competitive house: Tabor, Woolsey, Kelly, and Martin.
