To the Moon and Back
Nicole Jia, Staff WriterOn October 22nd, in the dead of night and in the pouring rain, man walked the moon once again. Though it was a school night, nothing could keep a bunch of eager teenagers from witnessing such a momentous event. We all piled into the diamond ballroom, the buzz of excitement and anticipation electrified the air as we stood in wait for the band. Flashes were seen all throughout the crowd, no doubt being uploaded as a Snapchat story moments later. Friendly conversations developed with the people around us as we all couldn’t contain our enthusiasm for the show to start. The air was thick and smoky, and there was about a centimeter (at most) of space between the person in front of you and behind you. All those things faded away the moment Walk The Moon took the stage.Instantly, a surge of bodies pressed forward with the force of a tidal wave, everyone eager just to get a little bit closer to the stage. Once in the audience, there was no fighting the masses. Wherever it went, you went. Luckily, the wave pushed me forward. Sliding my way into any open spot I could find, I scored a prime spot in the third row.Opening up the night with “The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King” and then cutting straight into their song “Jenny,” WTM stole the show from the very beginning. The crowd was a crazy, sweat-soaked mosh pit. People were screaming, jumping up and down, waving their arms in the air to the beat of the music, and singing along to every word of every song. There were people pushing from the front, the back, and both sides--so much so that I felt like I was in a human pin ball machine. However, the hectic chaos of the moment only added to the experience. Everyone was there with the same intent: for the good music and a good time, and that’s what made it so fun. Arms in the air, singing at the top of our lungs, screaming for the awesome sets being played, there was not a dull moment throughout the entire concert. The band interacted with the audience and pounded rainbow drums, creating a vibe that got the crowd hyped up to yell plenty of "Shut up and dance with me’s." Walk the Moon finished out the night with “I Can Lift a Car” and an encore of “Anna Sun.”They played a show that sent me over the moon and left me feeling like I had just witnessed something that might have rivaled the Apollo 11 moon landing. Even as the lights came on and everyone began to leave, my ears wouldn’t stop ringing, and everything sounded like I had a thick blanket covering my head, leaving the Walk The Moon concert as a night to remember forever.
