Casady Students Play in Fall Orchestra Performance

On October 24, the Casady Philharmonic performed at their annual Fall Concert in the St. Edward’s Chapel. The Middle Division played “A Gypsy Tale” by Soon Hee Newbold, and “An English Folk Song” arranged by Terry McQuillkin. The Upper Division orchestra played “Adoration” by Florence Price along with St. Paul's Suite: IV. Finale, ‘The Dargason’, by Gustav Holst, while the Chamber group performed Concerto No. 4, ‘Winter’ by Antonio Vivaldi.
Before performing these pieces, students must partake in countless hours of practice that take place at school. For the Upper Division orchestra, students sacrifice their PA+ period to secure practice time. In addition to practicing at school, members of the orchestra must practice at home to perfect their parts. Mr. Larry Moore, Co-Director of the Casady Philharmonic, believes that students are able to play at such a high level because of “the time and effort spent practicing on their own will.”
According to concertmaster Eddy Kang (‘24), the hardest part of performing is “nerves, because playing in front of people feels completely different [to] when you’re just practicing in the orchestra room.” Each member of the orchestra must overcome these nerves in order to play to their fullest potential during concerts.
The Casady Philharmonic holds three concerts every year at school: the Fall Concert, Winter Concert, and Spring Fling. Each of these concerts highlights different pieces to create a new experience for the audience.
