Casady Field Hockey Team Takes SPC By Charge

The Casady Field Hockey team traveled to Houston, TX on November third last weekend for SPC. While they were there, they won the 3A division championship against Trinity Valley School. They also won all 8 of the games which they played. Some key players in these games were Gracie Buxton (‘26), Helen Olszewski (‘25), Riley Dumigan (‘23), Caroline Currie (‘23), and Grace Hua (‘23).

The team won the championship game 2-0 against Trinity Valley, with Freshman Gracie Buxton scoring both points. When asked how it felt to score the championship winning point as a freshman, Gracie promptly said, "it was really fun, because after I scored, I was surrounded by my best friends on the team, and it was so fun." Gracie plays on the varsity field hockey team, and she hopes to attend Wake Forest University for the sport. She says that the team "is supportive," and "it is really fun, because if you mess up, everybody just tells you that it is okay and you will do better next time."

Helen Olszewski played in all games, and passed to Gracie for the final point.

Helen said that as a team, they "came to practice everyday with the belief that we would win SPC [...]our coach told us that from the beginning, every day that we came to practice, we were working towards our goal of winning SPC." Helen does not want to play the sport past high school, but says that "most of the people on the team do, which is great."

Caroline Currie, a senior, is headed off to Trinity College in Hartford, CT for Field Hockey. Caroline said that "it feels really nice just to win at all, and doing it with my team was so fun. [...] I'm excited to have the leadership skills I got this year and to take it to Trinity." Responding to my question of if the team creates a supportive environment, she stated that "this year was just really competitive, but also a really fun and unique experience for me, and I think all of our teammates." To finish off and rounding up the overall energy of the SPC weekend, "it was awesome!" stated Caroline.

The whole year was great overall. This team seems to be a special group of hard workers, and they all are passionate about field hockey. From those who play the sport out of enjoyment, to those who want to go even further with it, these girls are on the track to greatness. This weekend was only the start of something amazing for this team as well as a great way for the seniors to end their high school field hockey careers hough the school is set to switch from the SPC to the OSSAA, field hockey will remain in SPC, and hopefully, this season was the start to a dominating streak for the championship winning team!
