Casady Softball: Starting Out the Season Strong

Last weekend, Casady Softball competed in the Legacy Tournament in Frisco, battling it out to receive second place. The team dominated in the beginning of the weekend, winning all three of their games against Tyler Grace School, Kennedale Fellowship, and Legacy Christian. After a long weather delayed battle, our Cyclones lost the championship, but impressively won the title of runner up. It was a successful weekend with Caton Nelson (‘20) earning the title all tournament for our Cyclones. To reflect on the tournament and discuss hopes for the upcoming season, I sat down with Whitney Thomas(‘19), senior catcher and Casady Softball veteran of four years. How did your experience at the Legacy tournament make you feel looking forward into the season?I think we were all looking forward to seeing how this group will play together. We lost some fundamental seniors and only had 4 returning starters, so this would be a relatively new team. However, Layne, our new freshmen pitcher, did an outstanding job, and I know she’s going to be able to fill the spot Reagan left very well. Even though we played games with only about a full week of practice under our belts, we were able to place second in this tournament, which speaks to the effort this team gives, and the potential it has. So I’m very excited going forward, and can’t wait to see what more we will be able to achieve as a team. What are you most excited about for your senior season?I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead a team that’s given me so much in the past four years with Margo. I want to maintain the dynamic we had last year with those seniors, and promote an environment of encouragement, determination, and one in which we work for each other. It’s also nice to get to play a sport with my sister in my last season ever.Do you have any personal goals for this season?Personally, I just want to be a good catcher for Layne and a good leader for the team. I want to know I made the most out of this season because I’m going to miss the sport so much when I’m finished. As a team, I hope we can place well in the SPC tournament, but more importantly, know we tried our absolute hardest every time we stepped on the field.I know it’s going to be an exciting season for this amazing team with many glorious victories ahead. You can catch the Cyclones next at home on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:00. Be sure to support this incredible team any time you can!
