Cross Country SPC Preview

After thirteen weeks of training, the final race awaits. The Casady cross country team will travel to Norbuck Park in Dallas this weekend for the annual SPC Fall Championships. The top ten varsity runners for both boys and girls will compete against tough competition, with the girls race beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday and the boys following shortly after at 9:25 AM. Both teams took second at North Zone, and the Cyclones are excited and ready to compete against even more competitors at SPC.Runners to watchSam Bass: After a first place finish at North Zone, all eyes are on Sam to dominate this weekend. He placed 5th last year with a great race and hopes to improve his place this year. Although he is only a junior, Sam holds the Casady record for fastest 5K ever, and just last weekend, broke his own record with a personal best of almost 20 seconds. Peter & Jack Berryman: These two alternated between second and third place positions on the team throughout the season. Both placed at North Zone, and stand a good chance to place again at SPC. It is not unusual to see them running together both in practice and in races, and each contributes a fun-loving but hard-working attitude to the team. Sophia Mathis: Last year, Sophia placed 13th at SPC, and like Sam, looks to improve on that this year. She hopes for a personal record in the next race, and we are hoping she can break 20:00. This is only Sophia’s second year on the team and at Casady, but she has been a great addition and we can’t wait to see what she will do in this race and over the next two years.Claire Richardson: This will be my last meet as a high school cross country runner, and the end is bittersweet. I’m pumped to compete on Saturday, but at the same time, I can’t imagine not having cross country to look forward to every fall. I am also shooting for top twenty at the meet and hoping for a good PR to close out the season and my high school career. I’m going to be sad to say goodbye.Good luck to everyone running this weekend!
