Winter SPC Recap 2017
This past winter, teams travelled to Houston to compete at SPC. Boys Basketball, Boys and Girls Soccer, Swimming, and Wrestling were the teams that competed.It was a big year for Boys Basketball, who won the SPC Championship. Led by the strong senior class, the boys claimed the trophy. After beating Episcopal Dallas 47-39 and beating Kincaid 55-54 in a nail-bitter, the Cyclones went on to face Episcopal Houston, who beat the Cyclones last year. The Cyclones easily dethroned them in a 63-46 victory. Coach Owens, in his fourth season, finally claimed the trophy. The large senior core led the team to an undefeated conference record and a championship. The championship seniors were: Omar Boone, Jaylan Williams, Isaiah Levingston, Ryan Callahan, Brett Reynolds, Mason Mcclintock, Riley Staton, Dalton Bishop, and Hamza Gillian.In Wrestling, the boys team finished 4th. In the 106lbs weight class, Will Dumigan ('20) got 1st place. In the 113lbs weight class, Parker Gwin ('20) got 3rd place. In the 126lbs weight class, Kian Steppe ('19) got 2nd Place. In the 170lbs weight class, Nick Armoudian ('19)got 2nd place. In the 182lbs weight class, Will Bennet ('18) got 2nd place. In the 195lbs weight class, Johnny Lee ('17) got 4th place. In the 285lbs weight class, John Renfrow ('18) got 2nd place.Boys Soccer, the North's 5th seed, lost to the South's 4th seed, St. Stephens, in the opening round 2-3. The Cyclones bounced back and won their next two games and won the consolation bracket. These wins included a 3-0 win against St. Andrews and a 2-1 win against St. Marks.Girls Soccer, the North's 5th seed, lost the the South's 4th seed in the opening round, 0-1. The Girls lost again, 0-2, in their next game.In Swimming, Girls finished 9th and Boys finished 10th. Quinn Bunnag ('18) got 2nd in the 100m Breaststroke and 8th in the 100yd Fly. Julia Grantham ('19) finished 8th in the 100m Breaststroke. The Girls relay finished 6th.Congrats to all the teams that travelled to SPC!
