Review of The Edmond Open: Casady Men's Basketball

Ford Watkins, Staff WriterThis past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Casady men's basketball competed with the best in the Edmond Open at Edmond Memorial.  The Cyclones played very hard and never stopped competing.  Despite this, they finished 1-2 in the Edmond Open.Casady's first game was against 6A powerhouse Midwest City. Omar Boone ('17) was Casady's leading scorer with 23 points.  Also, he broke an opposing player's ankles. Isaiah Levingston ('17) had 9 points, and Ryan Callahan ('17) had 8 points.  Despite a valiant effort, the Cyclones fell to the Bombers 65-99.Casady's second game was against the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves, another 6A school.  This game was very fun to watch up until the last few minutes.  Jaylan Williams ('17) had 13 points, and Omar Boone had 10 points.  Casady had a narrow 2 point lead in the first quarter, and at half only trailed by 3.  However, Edmond Santa Fe prevailed at the very end, winning 56-49.The third game was the highlight of the Cyclones' tournament.  Casady competed against yet another 6A school - the Jenks Trojans out of Tulsa.  Jaylan Williams had an outstanding game, putting up 32 points.  Omar Boone put up a solid 10 points as well.  Casady ousted Jenks, 78-43.Despite perhaps not coming out of the tournament with the record the team hoped for, there are a lot of positives to bring back from the Edmond Open.  The team chemistry seems to be improving every game.  If they can hang with 6A schools, and the players can keep putting up numbers like they have been, the Cyclones could absolutely dominate the Southern Preparatory Conference.
