Oklahoma V. Auburn
Its Christmas time again, and this year the Sooner Nation has not only been brought goodies and gifts, but also a New Year’s 6 Bowl Game. On January the 6th, the Sooners will face the Auburn Tigers in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. No matter where you stand on the OU/OSU divide, I think we all can agree this will be an excellent game.Currently, the Sooners are playing like one of the best teams in college football. The OU roster is stacked with rising stars, such as Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook (Both of which are Heisman Nominees). Oklahoma’s offense revolves around twin terror Running Back’s Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine. The RB’s are both undeniably playing at NFL caliber. On the passing spectrum, Dede Westbrook is absolutely tearing up the field. He currently ranks 2nd among Big 12 receivers in receiving yards. All of these factors are working with great cohesion and powered the Sooners to a Big 12 title. The Sooners are also coming off clear cut victories over both OSU and West Virginia (Both ranked teams, with OSU being in the top 10 at the time). OU is bringing an intensity into this bowl game incomparable to the start of the season, setting them up for a great Sugar Bowl Performance.Meanwhile, Auburn is yet to win against a decent team. They finished at 8-4, the only ranked teams they beat being Arkansas and LSU. They are coming fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Alabama, and haven’t won against a good team since midseason. However, their team does have a great run game. Sophomore Kamryn Pettaway had 1,123 yards this season, and with a weak defensive line, the Sooners are especially susceptible to a strong RB. If Auburn can put enough pressure using their passing game, their physical play would give them a decent shot at the Bowl.Overall, I have OU winning this one 56-40. Both teams have high powered offenses and mediocre defenses. Yet, the Sooners have a more high-powered offense, which will allow them to pull out the win.
